SAFEE
Security Alliance For the East End
The SAFEE program provides additional security patrols in the East End HistoricalDistrict by uniformed Galveston Police Officers at random hours throughout the week. For those of you who are not familiar with our organization, SAFEE is a program that hasbeen in effect since April 2002 and is vital to the prevention of crime in one ofGalveston’s most loved historic neighborhoods. The SAFEE program is currently fundedby membership of East End neighbors. We currently fund approximately eight hundredman hours a year. Some examples of crime prevention that have occurred in the last yearalone are drug arrests, felony theft arrests and countless suspicious person checks ofpeople wandering the neighborhood that did not belong. Having additional Policepresence in the neighborhood is also great for crime prevention. SAFEE is the onlyprogram of its kind on the Island and has been working for us!
One of the extra services that the SAFEE Program offers is a vacation watch for yourresidence. The Officers will look over your home and actually walk the property andcheck doors and windows at your request. This is a wonderful service provided for yourSAFEE membership.
In April 2008 the program had its first major fundraiser, the SAFEE Chili Cook-off. Thiswas our first annual event and the weather was wonderful. We had tasty Chili from eightteams and fun Raffle Prizes. SAFEE Officers were in attendance to visit with and askquestions. Detective Blackwell even brought his buddy Cash from the Mounted Patrol.
In the effort to explore and try new ways to keep in touch with our SAFEE Officers weare excited to announce that the SAFEE Program will launch a Facebook page for theprogram. This will be a free membership benefit to SAFEE Program members and youwill be invited to be our friend. We feel that this will provide another layer of directcontact with the Officers and the Officers with members.
In 2010 we are hoping to increase patrols and fund new programs specific to crime. Wehope that you will consider becoming a member of this one-of-a-kind program onGalveston Island. Your support will help keep Police coverage in our neighborhoodworking to eliminate unwanted crime. If you have additional question please feel free tocontact us at safee@swbell.net.
Sincerely,
